 TAMWORTH HONOURS SEASON'S BEST

The Tamworth Harness Racing Club conducted their Annual Awards Presentation night for the 2013/14 season at the Southgate Inn on Saturday October 18 with a crowd of 75 in attendance, being a good mix of members, sponsors, industry participants, family & friends.


Moonbi's Dean Chapple was the big winner taking out both the Harness Racing Travelworld Trainers' & Drivers' Premierships with 24 & 35 wins respectively. The Chapple stable has dominated both categories for the last decade.


The Sauer's Glass Tamworth Percentage Trainers' Premiership went for the second year running to local mentor Ken Natty, who had a great strike rate with his small team, recording 8 wins from just 34 starts ( 4 of those to Leighmont).


The North & North-West Young Drivers' Award,  sponsored by the Shoal Bay Resort & Spa, was taken out by Tamworth teenager Scotty-Jon Welsh. The Hillam Family Trophy takes in Tamworth, Armidale, Narrabri & Inverell tracks.


The Peter & Di McNamara Photography Horse of the Year, for the second year running, was Soho Eros, who recorded 7 wins, 2 seconds & 1 third from 13 starts on the 750m Showground Paceway. He is owned by Tony & Peter Missen and Steve Sainsbury and trained by Tony.


The Eco-Inn Warners Bay Owners' Premiership was once again annexed by Rayngold Pty Ltd, amassing 66pts as a result of 11 wins, 6 seconds & 21 thirds.


The Margaret Ford Volunteer of the Year was deservedly awarded to Therese Kliendienst for her untiring efforts as a trials supervisor and as a valued member of the mobile starting team.


The Pub Group Drive of the Year was selected from 5 finalists : Soho Eros ( Peter Missen), Rosie O'Rourke & Cody Shannon (both Sally Torrens), My Red Ruby (Tony Missen) and Shine On Wicklow (Dean
Chapple) with the accolade going to Peter Missen for his excellent display behind Soho Eros in winning the $10000 Garrards Tamworth Pacers Cup 2360m on January 24.


The 2014/15 THRC Season is already underway, having staged four race meetings with the next on Monday afternoon October 27 where the $7500 Spring Sprint 1609m as the feature.
