Race Meeting Report Thursday Afternoon 17th August 2023

Thursday 17th August 2023 saw another big 10 race program run on a day the weather on which varied from hot and sunny to cold and showery.

Congratulations to Jye Coney, son of on-course trainer Greg Coney, who had his first race drives at this meeting, having had his B-Grade Drivers Licence issued by HRNSW the previous week. Jye had five (5) drives at the meeting, three (3) of which were for his father's stable and two (2) for the Shepherdson's Narrabri stables.   

Jye's first race drive was in Race 1 on the program, The TAB App Maiden Pace, which saw him take third place, but it resulted in a very nervous visit to the Stewards Room afterwards and a reprimand for shifting ground under pressure. This drive was followed by a ninth in Race 5 behind SWEET SUNSHINE for the Shepherdson stable, then a second place by only a head in Race 7 The Night Racing - Thursday 24th August Pace behind DEEBO for his fathers stable. After a sixth place for the Shepherdson stable in Race 8, the best of the day came in the last on the program, The John's Auto Service Tamworth Pace, with the ultimate first career win by 3.3 metres behind COLBY NZ for his father Greg's on-course stable. 

After the meeting it was back to Cessnock for Jye, where he is currently working for the Clayton Harmey Stable, for whom he has a drive behind ROCKLEA IMAGE at the Newcastle Paceway tonight, Friday 18th August. 

THE COMPETITION WINNERS WERE:

THE PUB DRIVE OF THE DAY: was won by JACK BUCKMAN driving WHATA TERROR from the Narrabri stables of his uncle Jarred Hetherington in Race 3 The Pub - Gunnedah Road Pace.
