CHAPPLE & WEIDEMANNS AGAIN SALUTE
Leading Moonbi trainer/driver Dean Chapple and the Weidemann sisters from Qld continued their great run at Tamworth last Sunday afternoon with winning doubles. At the previous meeting on June 19 they both had landed trebles.
Chapple bookended the bitterly cold day with the first being a 9m victory behind 4yo gelding Dreamshaker ( Dream Away-Our Mumma Stirling) in the Thrifty Car Rental Pace 1609m. Having just his third race start the $10.40 shot enjoyed a perfect trail before sprinting to the lead at the 350m and then drew clear for local owner/breeders Brian & Robert Betts. Chapple then had to wait until the last, the TAB App. Pace 1980m with the very promising 4yo mare Artsu (Elsu-Holly Holmes). The $2.60 favourite overcame a back row draw to trail up three wide from the bell, before leading at the 400m and then ran away to score by 12 1/4m in a rate of 2.00.7. The former Kiwi pacer has a perfect record on the 750m Tamworth track winning all her 4 starts. Dean's drive earned him The Pub Drive of the Day Award.
Regular visitors to Tamworth from Clifton, near Towoomba in Qld, Lola and Julie Weidemann both recorded winners. Lola led throughtout in the TAB Rewards Pace 1609m on 3yo Confessionoficeman (Courage Under Fire-Ebony And Ice) at $29.30. The gelding brought up his first win from 22 starts, rating 2.2.6 and is prepared by Lola who usually leaves the training to her older sister Julie. Not to be outdone Julie also led all the way with Dancing Cam (Cammibest-Dancing Nukes) in the Millenium Signs Pty Ltd Pace 1980m. The 7yo gelding made it back to back Tamworth wins and Julie went one better than Lola, as she owns, trains and drove the $5.70 chance.
Another successful combination to salute were the Missen brothers of Tamworth, trainer Tony and driver, Peter with My Red Ruby (Dream Away-My Cherie) in the Psarakis Accounting Ladyship Pace 1609m. After working hard to lead, the 5yo mare fought on gamely to hold off all challengers to win by 6m at $1.60 favourite. It was her third win from her last six starts.
Tamworth trainer Ian Mabbott is another local on a winning streak and 3yo Kemira Cause (Ifihadyourluck-Cause A Scene) made it back to back Tamworth wins in the Peter & Noreen Maher Appreciation Pace 1980m. In contrast to his previous all the way win, the gelding, who drew the second line, came with a well timed run under the vigorous urgings of Nathan Carroll to score by 2m. The young Dubbo reinsman has a good strike rate at Tamworth and a good affinity with the veteran Tamworth mentor.
Maitland trainer/driver Jamie Bond and his 5yo Village Xibbit (Village Jasper-Bondibit) continued their "love" affair with the Tamworth track when they led throughout in the CoatesHire Pace1980m. The tiny mare just kicked up from barrier three to hold the lead and withstood all the attackers to win her 8th win from 75 starts, 50% of them at
Tamworth.
Tamworth race again Thursday afternoon July 10, where the Race Book Jackpot Pacing Pick competition, sponsored by local bookie Peter Jackson, is worth $1100.
