TAMWORTH NOVEMBER 11 MEETING COMPILED BY JULIE MAUGHAN
The youngsters certainly shone through at the West Entertainment Members November 11 meeting with Tom Ison and Scotty-Jon Welsh taking out the first two events on the card.
16 yo Ison kicked the day off with a win by Pipers Challenge in the opening event, the West Diggers Pace (1980m).
Commencing from barrier five, Ison drove with confidence and took the grey Energy Level-Scotts Wish gelding to the lead and was never headed.
"We were hoping to get the death but was happy with the lead" said Ison after the win "The horse is putting it together, which is a change but he did good"
Trained by Andy Ison it was a change of gear that may have helped Pipers Challenge.
"We put spreaders on him and that gave him a bit more confidence and it seemed to work" added Ison.
Pipers Challenge had a 3.8 metre win over race favourite, and Hunter Valley pacer Sporty Belle (Peter Hedges) with Dreamy Nukes (Julie Weidemann) 2 metres away third.
The grey gelding collected his third career win with a MR was 2.02.9 for 1980 metres.
Onethingforcertain had her mind on racing in the following event the Banjos Restaurant & Nero’s Café Competitive Stakes Pace and did not disappoint punters who had elected her as race favourite.
For young reinsman Scotty-Jon Welsh, who is completing Yr. 12, he controlled the mare well.
Narrabri pacer Will Thrill (Chris Shepherdson) led the field with a challenge for the lead coming from Illtelyawat (Peter Missen) in the back straight on the final occasion.
The leaders were oblivious to Onethingforcertain, who raced at the tail of the field before making a three wide challenge, racing around the field in the back straight on the final occasion.
As the field turned into the home straight Will Thrill and Illtelyawat were met by Onethingforcertain who raced past the pair to come away for a 3 metre win over Will Thrill and Illtelyawat another 17 metres away third.
"It makes a difference when she does everything right" said Welsh "I’m sure it’s all in her head, some days she’s good other days she’s bad"
Onethingforcertain had a MR of 2.01.0 for the 1980 metres and proved another training win for part owner Dwayne Brown.
The Weidemann sisters then gained a double in the following two events.
Cockys Fancy was the first with an all the way win in taking the Scores Sports Bar & Star Maker Café Ladyship Pace by a head over Kate’s Attitude (Brendan James) and I Want Candy (Chris Shepherdson) a neck away third.
Bred and trained by Julie Weidemann, Cockys Fancy, a four year old Blissfull Hall-Kobnko mare came into the 1609 metre event off a win three days prior at Marburg.
"She is starting to put it together and today is probably the best she felt in a long time" said Lola Weidemann who was in the spider "That’s the best time she has gone and is improving"
MR for 1609 metres as 2.00.6.
Lola Weidman then came out in the following event the West Platinum TAB Competitive Stakes Pace (1980m) with Cammys Star, giving her the driving double for the day as well as a win as a trainer.
As with Cockys Fancy, Cammys Star came into the event with a last start win five days prior at Redcliffe.
"She just poked along and did the job. I brought her for $5,000 and she does a good job" added Weidemann who had to hold off on celebrating the win after Stewards requested a look at the patrol film to the finish and then a protest was fired in from the connections of second placed Alyeskas Dream (Tom Ison).
"That’s racing" said Weidemann.
Cammys Star had a 1.8 metre win over Alyeska Dream and Ride On A Rainbow (Anthony Varga) 5 metres away third.
Bit Noisy certainly did cause a ruckus in the Wests Entertainment Group Pace (1609m) with the Energy Level-Koara Leigh gelding having a 3.8 metre win over Lonesome Mach (Lola Weidemann) and race favourite Arvee Bromac (Peter Hedges) 9 metres away third.
"I’m happy. He has been a good old horse to me" said trainer and reinsman Dean Germon of the 8yo gelding "He has won races for me" said Germon.
Bit Noisy has done some kilometres with wins on tracks at the Gold Coast, Albion Park, Shepparton, Dubbo and Tamworth and came into the event at Tamworth off a last start fifth at Menangle, where they went 1.55.9 for 1609m.
Bit Noisy paid $6.30 for the win at Tamworth.
"I will go back to the drawing board and see what happens" said Germon who trains Bit Noisy for his mother Tina. "His next start could be Albion Park or here again"
Uralla pacer Double Barrell held off a fast finishing Machofdistinction (Craig Clegg) to make it back to back wins in taking out the Smoky’s Bar & Grill Pace after a win at Tamworth the prior start.
Handled by David Munsie the Art Major-Sissies Double mare is trained by his father Peter Munsie at Uralla.
"Hopefully she will improve a bit more" said Peter Munise after the win.
Double Barrell had a half neck win over Machofdistinction and Rockstar Ruler (Chris Shepherdson) 3 metres away third.
"I would like to thank West Entertainment Group for sponsoring this meeting" said Munsie.
